Bihar is an Indian state known not just for being the birthplace of various famous personalities but also for its festivities. Bihar has both a glorious history as well as a culture to boast about. Earlier, people here worshipped natural forces like stones, serpents, trees and semi divine beings.

Samana is one of the popular festivals of Bihar, which is celebrated both as a battle and a festival. Another famous fair celebrated here is Sonepur Cattle fair that marks the recreation of the Gagendra moksha legend. The cattle fair here is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik Purnima.

Nag Panchmi and Makar Sankranti Mela are the other two popular festivals of Bihar. Nag Panchmi is celebrated during the month of Sravana, when people offer milk to the snakes in order to ask for protection from them. During Makar Sankranti, devotees offer flowers to the deities at the temples.

Gaya Pitrapaksha Mela that is celebrated in September is yet another event to celebrate for the Biharis. How can we forget mentioning the famous Chaath fasting in Bihar. Married women here fast on Chaath for the long life of their husbands.
