Though, a new state, Chhattisgarh has developed its own cuisine. The cuisine here has been evolved after getting inspired by the food habits of the neighboring states. People living here like eating spicy and sweet food, including, namkeens and sweets. Perhaps, therefore, these two are a must in their cuisine.

When we talk about the major food consumed in Chhattisgarh, then we will talk about maize and wheat. Those who live in this state are fond of eating maize and wheat for the protein they value. In pulses, they are fond of arhar dal, which is prepared using green vegetables like cabbage, brinjal and ladyfinger.

Cashews burfi, jalebi, khurma, kusli, shikanji and sabudana ki khichadi are some other favorite foods of the locals here. Local dishes here are prepared using a lot of spices, aroma and flavors. Apart from these, people make food in Chhatisgarh using oil, ghee, cream and butter generously.

Chhattisgarh cuisine is incomplete without bafauri, a special dish made with chana dal. Food in Chhattisgarh is characterized under two categories, including, tribal and non-tribal menu. Tribal category is famous for dishes like Rakhia badi and petha.
