Who says that South Indians don’t celebrate festivals? Go on a tour to Karnataka and see how lively these people are and their festive celebrations. Their year starts and ends with festivals and fairs. To begin with they celebrate Vairamundi Brahmotsave that is celebrated on April 4th, 2009. This is an annual festival celebrated to worship Lord Cheluva Narayana.

Then comes, Dasara, a festival that marks the celebration of the women power. On this festival, Chamundeshwari, Goddess of courage and power is worshiped. People of Karnataka also love celebrating Dusshera for ten days especially at Mysore. They also love Deepawali, the festival of lights and crackers.

Vaikunta Ekadashi is another popular festival celebrated in Karnataka in the month of Margashira. These people also celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi to celebrate the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Gowri festival is celebrated here to worship Gowri, wife of Lord Shiva. There is another interesting festival celebrated in Karnataka, called, Ground nut festival on the last Monday of Karthika Masa.

People here also worship Lord Krishna and celebrate His birthday on Krishna Janam Ashtami. Mahashivratari, Naga Panchami, Shankranthi and Ugadi are some other festivals celebrated here with pomp and show.
