Climate of Kerala, Weather in Kerala

The weather conditions at Kerala are affected by the diversified geographical conditions. The hilly terrains have a cool soothing temperature throughout the year. The coastal areas have temperatures varying between 22 degrees to 32 degrees. The coastal areas are usually hot and humid during summer. They experience pleasant cool temperature during the winters.

The weather conditions are classified in four types of climate. They are Winter, Summer, South West Monsoon and the North East Monsoon.

Winter: The season starts in the month of December and usually lasts until the month of February. The weather conditions are usually low temperatures prevail in the hilly region but the coastal areas are pleasant. Rainfall is low during this period.

Summer: Winter is followed by summer. Day temperatures start rising from the middle of February. This season lasts till may end. The temperatures are high in the interior areas. Occasional of low rainfall is common during this season.

South West Monsoon: The South West Monsoon usually starts in the end of May. The Malabar region experiences high rainfall.

North East Monsoon: It usually starts in the month of October and continues until end of December. The northern part of the state does not receive much rainfall.
