People of Manipur are great foodies and love experiment with their food preparations. They are particularly fond of rice, fish and green vegetables. When in Manipur don’t forget to taste the specialty of the state called, Ngri, which is made from a fermented fish.

The traditional Manipuri cuisine is very much influenced by the neighboring states of north east India. Most of the people here are non-vegetarian and so the main food comprises of non-vegetarian delicacies. So, all those who love non-veg will have no problem touring this wonderful Indian state.

Since, Manipur is a home to several tribes, the food here is varied in taste. Most of the food preparations done in Manipur are boiled or steamed. These people use a very little oil for cooking and love adding spices, bamboo shoots, garlic and ginger in their food. The main drink of Manipur is Shemai, which is considered as a state wine.

Some other popular dishes of Manipur that are worth a try are Aloo matter, Smoked fish, Khangau, Khajing Bora, Kanghau, Monica gi chakum, Pakoura mah, Nga atauba and Yongchaak singju.
