Many tourists delay their plans to tour Meghalaya thinking whether they will get their kind of food there or not. So, read on to know about the food available in Meghalaya and plan your tour without a worry. People of Meghalaya are fond of eating rice, meat and fish preparations.

Fruits like pineapples, oranges, guava, bananas and lemon are also consumed in a great quantity in Meghalaya. People of this Indian state are fond of food and use a lot of spices and oil in their cooking. Chewing Betel leaf is a peculiar food habit of people leaving in Meghalaya.

In beverages, Meghalaya is famous for its special beer that is prepared from fermented rice. They are also fond of non-vegetarian dishes made of meat of deer, wild pigs and bison. They also eat seafood comprising of fish, crabs, prawns and eels.

Since, Meghalaya comprises of different tribes, food is also characterized by these tribal tastes. For instance, the Garo cuisine is simple with a little of variations.
