It’s not only the temples, heritage sites, beaches, monuments and other splendors that make Orissa world renowned, the state is also famous for its various fairs and festivals. Visiting Orissa during any festival is truly an experience of its kind. The whole state shines out with colors, lights and fragrances. There are enchanting of mantras, singing of holy songs and the sounds of temple bells.

Since, the state houses the popular temples like the Jagannath Temple, Konark Temple and Raja Rani Temple, you will get to enjoy a new festival devoted to these temples each, for instance, there is a Lord Jagannath Festival, then there is a Rajarani Music Festival and a Konark Dance Festival. Apart from these, there is a Puri Beach Festival.

Make sure to be a part of the Durga Puja if you plan to go on a tour to Orissa between September and October. Celebrating Makarmela on January 14th is also a pleasure in Orissa. During this festival, Sun God is worshipped with dedication. Then, in June or July comes the famous Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra for which tourists from around the world visit this state.

Maha Shivratri is celebrated in February or March. In March or April, comes the Taratarini Mela. Then in December, the people of Orissa love celebrating the Konark Festival singing rags and tals.
