The lively people of Rajasthan may be too eager to celebrate and that may be the reason for the large number of festivals in Rajasthan. Life is great, despite the climate is the clear message people want to communicate through the festivals. The Thar region, the region which is surrounded by the desert sees many festivals.

The festivals of Rajasthan are unique in the aspect that people from all religions and regions can take part in them and celebrate the joy of being alive. Given below are some of the festivals that are celebrated in Rajasthan:

1) Gangaur- For the safety and well being of their husband, wives seek blessings from the almighty Siva. Gangaur is made from two words, Gan which symbolizes Lord Shiva and gaur which means Parvati. Young girls are often seen participating in the festival by making images and statues of Parvati.

2) Teej- The festival of Teej is considered to be the most important in the state of Rajasthan. It is a large festival and is celebrated all over the state. The ladies enjoy putting on jewelry and new dresses. It is celebrated during the Shravan season (August).

3) Urs- Ajmer is the hold city for both Hindus and Muslims. Muslims held a festival in Ajmer in the memory of Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, the savior of the destitute.
