What comes in mind if I say “FOOD”? For me it refers the Chat Patta, spicy yummy food. Have you ever imagine a meal, mainly cooked with rice as main ingredients. So start imagining that’s what Tamil cuisine is made of. Tamil Cuisines has its own regional varieties known as Chetinadu Samyal, Kongunadu Samyal, and Madurai Samyal etc. It is basically south Indian food where Rice and rice driven dishes form a major portion of diet. Rice is a staple food which is ideally mixed with Sambhar with or without Ghee, Rasam, curd, or buttermilk.

Traditionally the food is severed on banana leaf and eaten with right hand. The food is also served with various vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes like Kootu, Aviyal, Poriyal, and Appalam, with varieties of pickles and Chicken, Mutton, Fish fry.

A steamy hot breakfast is served includes Dosai, Adai, Idly, Vadai, Pongal, Appam, Uppumava (upma) and Uthappam. It is served with chatni, Sambar and Podi. Traditionally prepared Filter coffee is unique in taste and popular. The Chetinadu region is famous for its spicy non veggie cuisine while Ambur, Dindigal and Sankarankoli is known for Biriyani. Sweet items which are native of Tamil Nadu are prepared at home which are Athirasam, Chakkari Pongal and Kuli Paniyaram. In the recent past fast food culture is witnessing a steady growth.
