The tourism in the state is booming. Uttar Pradesh attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. In India, UP leads in tourism due to the presence of sites like the Taj Mahal. Many cities in Uttar Pradesh survive due to the constant inflow of domestic and foreign tourists. Here are some of the main tourist attractions in the state :

1) Varanasi- The ancient city of Varanasi, often said to be the oldest city in the world, is the cradle of both Buddhism and Hinduism. Both the countries have originated and flourished here. The formation of the city is as old as the formation of Balylon. The ghats of the holy river Ganga, the old architectural style Hindu temples and Hindu saints and monks.

2) Agra- This is the most popular city for domestic and international tourists. The famous Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan who built the breathtaking monument for displaying the love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal has been given the status of one of the ‘seven wonders of the world’.

3) Lucknow- The capital of the state is known for its Islamic legacy. The city is famous for its Urdu music and poetry. Traditional handicrafts are given encouragement in this city.
