West Bengal is one of the biggest states in eastern India stretching right from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal. The Bay of Bengal has derived the name from this state, whose economy and livelihood is dependant on the bay. 1st May 1960 was the day the state officially became to be known as West Bengal. This state had been a part of several empires and kingdoms for past two millennia.

Diverse cultures and various influences formed a unique culture of the Bengali people. Various charms adorn the land of West Bengal. The mighty Himalayas to the north and beautiful beaches to the south, the state is a sight to see. Pristine spots like the Sundarbans, a haven for tigers is found in this state.

More than two third of the population of the state is dependent on agriculture. There are many crops grown in West Bengal. It is one of the most influential states in the Union, and it is not wrong to say that food and culture have been the reason for this. All across the country, Bengali sweets are famous and rated as the best sweets in India. The language is spoken in many parts of India, and Bengalis now freely travel across the country.
