The culture of the state of West Bengal is both colorful and vivid. Modern thoughts and culture has sprung from the great reformers like Vidyasagar and Ram Moham Roy. The diversity within the state makes it an interesting place for any tourist especially if learning the local cultures are important to him.

‘West Bengal’ lives both in its past and present. Though the traditions and cultures have not gone yet, the modern thinking has been rooted due to work of reformers and due to development. The Sundarbans and the Gangetic plains have made this culture very unique and somehow different from the rest of the country.

Music and dance are a very important part of the Bengali culture. Religious and secular songs are very famous in the state. Playing musical instruments is a part of the culture as well. The ektara, dhol, khol are important instruments that are played in the state. All the Bengalis like to live a rich, traditional and harmonious lifestyle.

All the religions in the state get respect and form a uniting force. The language of Bengali, a very important part of the culture finds its roots in the Indo-Aryan community. The musical melody, culinary delights; dancing damsels make the culture beautiful and unique.
