There are many festivals in the vivid land of Bengal. The people of various communities and religions come together and have a good time. You will be able to see joyous ceremonies, emulating the carefree side of life.

The communities celebrate around forty festivals in a year. Given below are some of the important festivals in the state of West Bengal:

1) Durga Puja- Durga Puja is the biggest festival in the state. Some of the features that ae common during the long festival is the fragrance of the blossoms of Shiuili and the sounds of drums. The festival is also celebrated all over India, in the months of September/October. The dawn of the Goddess Durga is said to bring prosperity and happiness in everyone’s lives.

2) Naba Barsho- the New Year celebration is a much awaited festival in West Bengal. Candles or ‘diyas’ are seen all over the state and especially in temples. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped on this day. Activities like gambling, eating, drinking, lightning firecrackers take place during this time. The exchanging of gifts forms an important part of the festival. 3) Rath Yatra- More than lakh tourists are attracted by the Rath Yatra which takes places in the region of Mahesh near Kolkata. The day is assumed to be very promising as it signals the onset of the monsoon in Eastern India.
